Siren by the Sea

About the Artwork

Siren by the Sea is inspired by Waterhouse’s ‘Mermaid’ (1900). She lounges on a sunbed, combing her hair as tourists sunbathe in the background, unaware. This piece is set in the picturesque town of Lindos in Rhodes, Greece.

This piece measures 59cm by 84cm (A1)

Oil (Mermaid) painted onto printed woven canvas.

Artist proof, so it may have signs of wear/marks.

About the piece:

This piece is different from my usual urban, built-up settings, yet it still contains elements of humanity. It captures a casual moment where a mermaid combs her hair on a sun lounger. The tourists continue with their lives in the background, taking no notice of the mythical creature behind them. Instead of traditionally being atop a rock in the ocean, she is seen as a part of a human world, making this fantasy come to life and feel real.
